World Cup 32 Teams: 19 Set, 13 Remaining

The 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage enters its final phase, with 19 of the 32 spots already determined. Under the expanded 48-team format, the top two from each of the 12 groups qualify directly, plus the eight best third-place teams, making 32 teams in the knockout stage.

France, Norway, USA, Australia, Germany, Japan, England, and Croatia have all secured their spots. England topped Group L with 7 points from two wins and one draw. Croatia advanced as Group L runners-up. Holland claimed Group F top spot.

The real drama lies in the third-place race. Twelve third-placed teams compete for eight spots, meaning at least four will be eliminated. This is arguably the fiercest competition for third-place berths in World Cup history.

As of June 26, Sweden, Ecuador, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Paraguay lead with 4 points each. But securing qualification requires at least 5 points, sometimes 6 depending on tiebreakers.

South Korea saw their chances collapse dramatically. After losing 0-1 to South Africa in their final group match, their qualification probability plummeted from 94% to 21%, ultimately failing to advance.

Ghana, meanwhile, finished third in Group L with 4 points and qualified via superior goal difference, making South Koreas elimination even more painful.

The remaining 13 spots will be decided in the coming days. Every remaining group match could determine a team fate.
